Esta fotografia foi tirada e editada por mim no dia 3 de junho de 2016, para um projeto universitário cujo o tema principal era “sobrevivência”. Aqui, segui com uma interpretação diferente e menos extrema do que seria de esperar desta palavra, aplicando-o ao ambiente escolar. São vários os desafios, intelectuais a sociais, desde a primeira classe ao ensino superior, que têm de ser balançados; estudos recentes mostram que tal não acontece com a subida de depressão e ansiedade em estudantes.
A photo taken and edited by me in June 3rd, 2016 for an university project, whose main theme was “survival”. I decided to pursue a different path from what would be expected with the prompt that was given, by applying it to a school setting. Although less extreme than what we think when we hear survival, there are various challenges, from first grade to superior education, ranging from intellectual to social, that have to be balanced. Well, recent studies have shown that they aren’t being balanced well, as students face mainly depression and anxiety during this phase.
No primeiro plano, vemos um hambúrguer parcialmente comido, agora a esfriar. No fundo, vemos estudantes (no qual assumimos este prato pertencer a um dos mesmos) a trabalhar num projeto em conjunto. Este cenário é comum em estabelecimentos de ensino superior, onde os horários são apertados e o tempo livre disponível têm, por vezes, de ser passado a trabalhar para cumprir datas de entrega.
In this image we can see a half eaten hamburger in the foreground, going cold, with students (one of which we assume the burger is their lunch) in the bakground working on a project together. This is a common sight in universities where schedules are tight and even free time and lunch breaks have sometimes to be put to use, so work is delivered on time.
Admito que fotografia não é o meu ponto forte, mas mesmo assim gosto de a praticar e aprender. Este projeto na sua íntegra consiste de três fotografias, mas como esta é a melhor das três tomei a decisão de a partilhar isoladamente. A composição é básica, e talvez deveria ter trazido um hambúrguer com mais vegetais para adicionar cor; atualmente, considero-a saturada em demasia com tons quentes.
I will admit to photography being my weakest point, but it is nonetheless fun to practice and learn about. This project actually consists of three photographs, but since this is the one that, in my opinion, looks the best, I’m sharing it alone. The composition itself is simple, and maybe I should have ordered a burger with more vegetables, for a more colorful photo, since this one feels over-saturated with warm tones.
